The Barber Half Dollar Series — A Historical Overview

The chief engraver of the U.S. Mint, Charles E. Barber, was involved in the development. The coinage was in the period from 1892 to 1916.

There is a portrait of Liberty on the obverse. She is looking to the right, and on her head is wearing a Phrygian cap and a laurel wreath with the inscription "LIBERTY" on the ribbon.

Thirteen stars around her head. They symbolize the original states. At the bottom is the date "1906".

On the reverse is an eagle with outstretched wings. It holds an olive branch and arrows. The inscriptions are "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "HALF A DOLLAR". Overall, the design is similar to the rest of the 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter.
