2019 Frank Church River of No Return Quarter – Value, Errors & Worth

2019 Frank Church River of No Return Quarter – Value, Errors & Worth

It was the final issue of 2019 in the America the Beautiful series. The coin has Idaho’s Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, a landscape. There are canyons, forests, and fast-moving water routes like the Main Salmon and Middle Fork.

The reverse has a drift boat in the whitewater, because it is a region with rugged terrain and limited access. But why did they pick this image to put on the coin? And how precious is this piece really?

The obverse has a Washington portrait, just like every piece in this series. It is a regular piece, but a five-ounce silver version of Frank Church was also minted. And like always, Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco were in charge of the main production. They are the classic Mint towns.

Philadelphia is the largest and oldest mint. It made billions of coins each year, with dies and proofs. Denver Mint is more about high-volume strikes (coins for everyday use). San Francisco was producing circulation coins and now mostly does proof and collector issues.

The Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness is a wild place left in the continental United States, and there are not many places of such kind left anymore. It is a picturesque view, just like in the Weir Farm.

It is more than 2.3 million acres (9,300 square kilometers), a block of untouched land. The Salmon River is the reason the place is named like this. To travel upstream is nearly impossible because of the current.

2019-S 25 Cents River of No Return (Regular Strike)

The place has huge ecosystems that have wolves, mountain lions, wolverines, bighorn sheep, and other species (they need a lot of space to coexist together). The area also connects with roadless lands; it is a big wildlife corridor in the lower 48 states.

“...‘Frank Church’ was attached to the site’s name in honor of late U.S. Senator Frank Church, who played a leading role in its preservation. The area is the largest single connected wilderness in the contiguous States and contains four national forests.”

What kind of coins can you also collect from this set if you are interested in nature? There are lots of pieces like that: Cumberland Island, American Samoa, Salt River Bay, Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller, and much more.

Frank Church Quarter Value & Worth

Circulated coins have a face value; uncirculated ones cost a bit more. Proofs and silver proofs, like always, have the biggest price. The 2019 Frank Church Quarter, The West Point edition, is the most expensive one.

General expectations for the Frank Church River quarter: it doesn’t cost a lot, but the piece is beautiful and has the full potential to cost much more in the future (especially if you got a silver piece).

Frank Church Quarter Errors & Varieties

2019-P 25 Cents River of No Return (Regular Strike)

No major errors define this design; modern minting has fewer errors because the equipment is far more controlled and precise than it used to be. But you still can find minor imperfections appear in roll searches.

Typical small issues:

  • Thin die cracks along the river or rocks

  • Tiny die chips on the boat edge or tree clusters

  • Soft strikes where water lines lose detail

  • Light doubling on lettering

Even small changes are easy to spot with a loupe.

Conclusion

The Frank Church quarter is a wilderness-themed coin. Usually, you will find common circulated pieces, but there are proofs, silver formats, and the West Point strike out there in the wild.

Is it worth collecting? Of course it is, the piece is pretty affordable, beautiful, and still out there, so why not?
