2017 Ozark Riverways Quarter: Value, Errors & Collector Guide

2017 Ozark Riverways Quarter: Value, Errors & Collector Guide

America hass a plethora of beautiful rivers, and one of such rivers was commemorated with the Beautiful Quarters series. Thus, the Ozark Riverways has made its way into the U.S. coins.

2017 Ozark Riverways Quarter Overview

America the Beautiful quarter program dedicated its 38th release to the Ozark Riverways 2017 quarter. The choice was more than expected, as Beautiful Quarters commonly showed either important people (like the George Rogers Clark quarter) or wildlife sites (Ozark Riverways).

The coin’s design depicts the national park well. Ozark Riverways is full of twists and turns, greenery, caves, and, of course, rivers.

  • The obverse shows a portrait of George Washington. There are inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “LIBERTY”, and “IN GOD WE TRUST”.

  • The reverse shows Alley Mill, one of the most recognizable spots in Ozark Park. Despite being called a “mill”, this building has served as a school, a farm, and a simple home. There are incisions like “OZARK RIVERWAYS”, “MISSOURI”, and “E PLURIBUS UNUM”.

“Vital to the community here a century ago, the mill stands as a tribute to our ability to harness the power of the environment and reminds us of a way of life heavily shaped by the remote and rugged landscape in which it endured.”

The design might be unique, but the technical specifications are similar to any other 2017 release (for example, Ellis Island quarter)

2017 Ozark Riverways Quarter Errors & Rare Varieties

Although the Riverways quarter is common, a certain group is rarer than most. Error quarters. You can find a handful of flawed pieces for each issue:

Ozark Riverways quarter with a major error.
  • Doubled die varieties: Sometimes lettering or design elements are doubled. Such an error can add hefty premiums, especially when the doubling is clear. Unfortunately, this error is rarely reported among the Beautiful quarters.

  • Die chips / die breaks: Small raised blobs (spots) appear on the design. The most commonly encountered error for these quarters.

  • Planchet mishaps: This error is more common for Denver and Philadelphia bits. In rare cases, the nickel outer layer is not properly distributed, and the copper core shows.

Bits with these errors and the San Francisco variety are all considered rare. The 2017 quarter value with errors could often be over $20.

Conclusion

Overall, the 2017 Ozark Riverways quarter is a welcome entry in the America the Beautiful series. For most people, these coins are common, something worthy of a change. Yet, as a tribute to an American national park older than a century, it is priceless.
