The picture of an expeditions camp against the background of mountains, to the right the dates 1883 1885, at the top a flying bird,at the bottom to the left an antelope, to the right a Kuku Yaman (a species of the family of cavicorn which has the signs of goats and rams). The inscription at the top along the rim: 2- (THE 2nd TIBET EXPEDITION).

In the centre — the Emblem of the Bank of Russia (the two headed eagle designed by I. Bilibin, lower — the semicircular inscription — «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA) framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the rim: at the top — «ТРИ РУБЛЯ» (THREE ROUBLES), at the bottom — «1999», the letters to the left indicate the metal sign and the fineness, to the right —the fine metal content and the mint trade mark.
